Fabulous Find 4-30-09

Over the weekend I was browsing around Two Peas in a Bucket just looking and wishing and I came across a link to a recommended photo printing store. What got me interested was that they said you could print nearly 30 different sizes. I have always looked at other people layouts with photos other than the standard 4x6 and always wanted to do it but I don't have a photo printer and it was always too expensive. Well I decided to try Scrapbook Pictures and my pictures came today. They are awesome! I ordered some 3x3 and 4x4 and unlike some companies that I had ordered from in the past where the 3x3 came on a 4x6 they were already cut. I also got some 6x9, 4x12 and 8x12 so stay tuned for some layouts with these new print sizes. Yeah!

Hello Scrapbookers!

I really enjoy scrapbooking memories that my family and friends create. If you are still on the fence as to whether or not you want to take up scrapbooking there are many reasons to do so. You can scrapbook to document family and history, as an artistic release, or to crop (meeting together with friends while scrapbooking and sharing ideas and learning new techniques). Fabulous Find 4-28-09

What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is the tradition of taking photos, and memorabilia, and placing them in family keepsake albums along with relevant journalling.

Organizing Your Photos

Today we are going to discuss organization. The first thing you need to do when starting scrapbooking is to organize your photographs. If you use a digital camera I suggest using Google’s free photo editing software Picasa to help you get organized. There is a PC and Mac version of the software. Simply go to www.picasa.com to download the free software. Here is a video from google that gives some information about Picasa.



When you have organized your photos the next step is to print out the pictures. There are many places you can get your pictures printed. I personally use Shutterfly. When you sign up you get 25 free 4x6 prints and they usually send emails with specials. You can also go to your local Walgreens if you want your prints right away.

Once you have your pictures printed I suggest using a photo sorter to organize your prints. I have tried many different ways to organize but the best way I have found and continue to use is the Creative Memories Power Sort Mini Box. It holds up to 600 photos and comes with white plastic dividing tabs that you can write on in pencil. Simply erase it when you are done. It is safe for storing your photos unlike cardboard boxes which do not keep them safe.

You can organize your photos according to events (such as holidays or vacations), or in chronological order. I organize my photos in chronological order. In my next post I will discuss the tools and items you need to scrapbook your photos.

You Do Not Need A Huge Scrapbooking Space

I live in a two bedroom apartment so we do not have a lot of space. That does not stop me because you do not need a huge room to scrapbook. Yeah, it would be nice, but don't let that stop you.

Here is a picture of my scrapbooking corner.


This is a corner in my son's room. It is fun because I get to see him while I scrapbook. He loves helping me push bottons on my cricut expression and he always wants to turn the handles on my xyron machines. Don't know what a cricut expression or xyron machine is? Don't worry you'll know everything about scrapbooking real soon. Well...almost everything. There are new products and techniques coming out all the time. Don't let that scare you though, that's what makes it fun!
